If you have a save file from the first game, you can continue from where you left off. As it's a direct continuation of the first game, there's a lot of story elements that need to be clarified from the get-go. The first game helped initiate a renaissance for Dungeons & Dragons-inspired CRPGs, and in true D&D fashion, you must go through a comprehensive setup consisting of an introduction, plot exposure, and character creation. Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, however, isn't as accessible as The Outer Worlds.
